Loss of passport should be immediately reported to the nearest Police Station and to the Passport Office or Indian Mission, if abroad. If required, you can apply for "Re-issue" of passport.

What is the definition of damaged passport?

Damaged passport is classifed further based on the extent of damage, i.e..

  • Damaged Passport - Passport number is readable, name is legible and photo is intact 
  • Damaged beyond recognition
Is a passport valid if damaged?

A severely damaged passport is no longer valid. It can't be used for travel, and it can't even be used to prove your identity and US citizenship. Passports that are badly damaged enough to be considerd mutilated need to be replaced via the Mutilated Passport procedure.
