The bonafide certificate is required by students who are staying away from there home and want to apply for the passport. the passport agency then requires it as the proof of currently pursuing education and for other verification purposes. Sometimes it is needed for police verification.

How long is bonafide certificate valid for passport?

Three months
The bonafide certificate issued to a person shall be only in the letterhead of the institution/school/company and should be duly signed and sealed. This certificate issued is valid only for a period of three months. When applying for a fresh passport, then this certificate is an important document to be submitted.
