A visa is a temporary authorisation for a passport holder to a country other then tha one he or she holds a passport of. The visa is usually stamped on a passport, but at times, it can be a separate document too. The governmert issues tree types of passport to indian citizens. 


What is the purpose of a passport and visa ? 

The passport serves two purposes : to regain entry to the country of citizenship (i.e. the United States) and is a reguirement by many countries to gain entry to the country you are visiting. A trave visa is an official government document that temporarily authorizes you to be in the country you are visitimg . 


Do you need a visa if you have a passport ?

A passport is used to verify one's country of citizenship. For U.S. citizens, some countries only require a passport for re-entry. other countries may require a visa before entry. You should confirm if a country-specific visa* is required before traveling
