What is NON-ECR or ECNR in indian Passport ?
NON-ECR, formely as ECNR, means Emigration Check Not Required (ECNR). In general, if you have passed 10th class/grade (matriculation or Higher Educational Pass Certificate) or have higher degree then your passport falls under NON-ECR Catagory .
What is ECR category in passport ?
ECR ( Emigration Check Requred ) passports are required are by Indian who wish to travel to certain countries for employment .
For those passport that have been issued after January 2007 , if there is no notaion,it means that the passport is an ECNR or Emigration Cerficate not Required Passport.

If a passport ( old booklet type ) does not contain ECR stamps ( normally the stamping is done on page 3 of the passport ), it is a NON-ECR passport.
In the new type of passport booket, 'Emigration Check Required' is printed just above the name of father/ Leagle Guardian column on the last page of the booklet.
